Abandoned By Bears | Own Blood Magazine

OBM: Hi guys, how are things at the moment? Where are you and what are you doing?

Hello! Things are all good and at the moment i'm writing this we're in a van on our way to Huston, TX to play a show tomorrow. Super stoked!

.

OBM: Sweden is rather known for Death and Black Metal! How did you come up with the idea to create a pop punk / post hardcore band and how big is the scene?

Yes! Funny thing is that almost all of us played in some sort of metal/hardcore band before Abandoned By Bears. But at the same time all of us allways hade a love for poppunk so the mix came naturally. Right now the scene isn't that big (especially for live shows) but there is a couple of hard working bands in the scene from Sweden!

.

OBM: How long had you guys been playing music before you were signed by “Victory Records”? Tell us how that came about…

All of us have been playing music since our early teen years (and some of us even earlier) so the drive to progress and create has always been there.

.

OBM: You’ve just put your first album through Victory Records, care to plug it a little bit?

Absolutely! "The Years Ahead" is an album about everyday problems and all the hardships you have to deal with and go through in your late teens and early years as a grown up. And at the same time enjoy every moment, not taking it for granted, break loose from bad habits and trying to have a positive look for what's coming up ahead. We're super proud and think you all should give it a try!

.

OBM: What has been the reaction, or feedback, since the album dropped?

It's been so positive and almost overwhelming for us! We're all super stoked with the feedback and can't wait to get back in the studio to start recording new songs for all of our listeners again. Couldn't be happier!

.

OBM: What is the significance behind the title “The Years Ahead”?

Finally being able to break free from old patterns and look forward to the future!

.

OBM: There is a lot of conviction and passion in your lyrics. What are some topics that we can expect and why did you choose to write about them?

Relationships with both partners, family and "enemies". "Bookmarks" for example is about understanding when you grow up that you maybe should've done and handled some of your previous actions in a different way with your new experiences. Trying to prove that you can change and if you got the chance you've would give all you got.

.

OBM: The artwork for this record is very interesting. Is there any symbolization going on there?

Like the title, coming out of "the dark forest" that is your past and have a positive look out over the "bigger view" that is your future and what i might hold.

.

OBM: Could we have your favorite song from the new album?

Hard one since all songs have special places in my mind. But I really like "Bookmarks" because of the meaning behind it. I can really relate to that song.

.

OBM: What are some bands that you guys pull influence from?

We all have a very different taste. For example, Jacob listens to more djent and metal than the other four of us, Leon are more into poppunk and pop music in general and Fredric are our melodic hardcore boy. But if i have to pick some personal influences for this band i must pick New Found Glory and Motion City Soundtrack. But there is still alot of other genres that influeces me while writing. And with our new drummer Max there will without a doubt be even more stuff to it.

.

OBM: What does your music mean to you? What do you hope to convey to people with it?

It's a mix of all the genres and music we love, so with that being said it means alot. We wanna share a feeling that people can relate to and hope that they will feel less "alone" while going through many of the things you have to deal with while growing up. But also an overall enjoyment over the riffs and instrumentals!

.

OBM: What do you want listeners to walk away with after seeing your live show?

We hope they're happy with the quality of what they hear but also that they see the passion we have for what we do!

.

OBM: There are bands popping up all over the place. What about in Sweden? Any bands we should be looking out for?

As i said before there isn't that many bands in Sweden. But you should all check out our friends in the swedish metal band Brighthaven. They are super passionate over what they're doing and keeps on putting out stuff with good quality. If i can give a shoutout to bands outside of Sweden i must give it to both For The Win and Settle Your Scores that we are touring with right now. Super humble and talented dudes that should have all the recognition they can get!

.

OBM: How do you see the future of Abandoned By Bears; do you have any goals, ambitions or ideas that you’d like to realise in the future (and that you can tell us about)!

Just keep on doing what we're doing, keep on progressing and making better and bigger music. But also try to stay true to our roots and stay humble!

.

OBM: What music is your band listening to these days?

Right now some of us are really into the new stuff Hopsin just released. Issues new album is also super groovy. Other than than those two there is alot of different stuff we're listening to right now, the list would be never ending!

.

OBM: Thank you very much for your time. I wish you all the best. You’ve worked hard and produced a fantastic album! Anything else you’d like to say to finish up?

A big thank you to everyone who supports us, our manager and label that helps us fullfill our dreams. We're more grateful than words can describe! Sincerly, thank you all!
