OBM: Cheers for your time. How are you guys doing?

Well, thanks!

OBM: Congratulations on the new album, first of all. You guys have been doing this fifteen years now. How do you maintain inspiration and not just get bored and sleepwalk through it?

Art comes from within and is always there, the business is such a clusterfuck at this time as long as you’re not high strung it can be entertaining to try and stay afloat!

OBM: How did you find your time in the studio for "Crown Of Phantoms"?

I had a blast. It was an easy process and we had a great time.

OBM: This album is titled "Crown Of Phantoms", talk to me about the theme or themes that run through this album and how it relates to this title.

It refers that there is no true individual that we are all connected and products of environment, friends, and the souls of those before us. Since the beginning of time we’ve been shaped to this present moment.

OBM: What sort of pressure do you face when you sit down to write a new song?

How heavy can I make this?

OBM: Is writing something that’s pretty collaborative for you, something you do in a practice room, or do you come up with ideas, pass them on, that kind of thing?

Mixture of multiple methods from jamming to isolated writing. It’s the way we’ve always done things as a group.

OBM: How much would you say a given Chimaira song changes from entering the studio to the final product? Give us an example?

Some don’t change much at all, “No Mercy” being an example. But the title track started as a few riffs and turned into a song once we got into the studio and our producer helped guide a few moments.

OBM: How was the concept for the “No Mercy ” music video put together and what was shooting the video like?

A collaboration between the director Pat Finegan and I and we wanted to emphasize the lyrical message as well as recreate life moments that have happened to the both of us. The shoot took over a week and all our friends came to party with us. It was a blast.

OBM: How hard is it to keep topping what you’ve already achieved?

Try not to think about it or top it. Not concerned with that.

OBM: What did you want to accomplish with this record musically, spiritually and lyrically?

I wanted to feel I put my all and then some into it.

OBM: Is this your proudest record you’ve put out to date?

I guess that’s up to the listener.

OBM: What do you think changed most during your 15 years as a band? On your shows, but mostly in the metal scene in general?

It feels like it’s in a period of slow death, but I remember this happening years ago. Will it come back? I’m not sure about that.

OBM: What kind of music do you tend to spin on the bus while on the road? Do you tend to listen to a lot of heavy music in your down-time or, do you prefer more of a variety of styles?

I am not much of a fan of heavy music these days. I like to listen to rap and electronic.

OBM: Things are a lot different for bands these days with the rise of the internet. Do you think that the web has made it easy to be in a band these days regardless of whether you are any good or not?

A band not on the web these days is not doing much of anything.

OBM Best Metal albums of all time?

Reign in Blood, Master of Puppets, Rust in Peace, Far Beyond Driven

OBM: Thanks for your time! Last question, do you have any announcements or shout outs for your fans?

Thanks for the support! Love ya’ll!

OBM: Right on! We wish you good luck with your new album, and thanks again for taking a minute to talk with us!
