Octaves | Own Blood Magazine

OBM: First off, give us some background on yourself. Tell us how Octaves got its start?

Craigslist.

OBM: For those who have yet to hear the record and your sound, who would you say is its biggest musical influences and comparisons?

Anything Kip Winger was in. Often compared to Abba. The screamo band Abba. Not that Swedish shit.

OBM: So the band's second full-length, Which Way The Wind Blows, has been out since early April - how've you felt the reception has been so far?

The reception for the record had ran pretty parallel to the quality of the record. Which I'd call, in a word, "Meh."

OBM: How did the writing and recording processes differ between the new album and your previous full-length? How much do you feel that you've grown as musicians and individuals since then?
The saddest and most notable difference in the whole process would have to be less nudity. This is largely due to a complete lack of physical growth and a hint of personal growth. That was a dick joke.

OBM: The lyrics on the album seem to be very personal and heartfelt, can you tell us a little more about the album title and meanings behind the songs in general?

The title is just plagiarism, pure and simple. The songs, however, are definitely about things. Like sandwiches. And selling drugs. And other.

OBM: What're your favorite songs to play at shows, and do you guys ever play any covers?

We've whipped out a cover or two...but ASCAP will never know!!! Muahahahaha!! I like to play all our new stuff. Other people do not seem to agree.

OBM: If a fan were to take one thing from listening to Octaves, what would you hope for it to be?

A sour taste...for all the right reasons.

OBM: Do you guys have any plans to make it overseas yet or are you focused on other things at the moment?

I swam across Loch Raven Reservoir once! And Back! Next question!

OBM: So far what's your favorite show you've played?

Maybeeee... Portland? No. Miracle on 34th. I dunno. They're all pretty whack.

OBM: Besides you guys, what other Baltimore bands should people be listening to?

Frank Zappa. Sisqo. Crack the Sky. Nothingface.  Did you mean currently active?

OBM: That's pretty much it, one last question. Musically, what's you guilty pleasure?

Musically? Probably BDSM.

OBM: Thanks for your time, we really appreciate it. Anything else you'd like to say to your fans?
Thank you! We have fans? Oh jeez....Um....The civil war was a hoax!
