The Possibility and the Promise (24. Mai, 2005) |
OBM: Before anyone knew about Amber Pacific, where were you guys? Tell me about your very first practice. Was it in a garage? Give me the nostalgic memories
that formed the start of this band.
I had started a Blink 182 cover band that eventually turned into a band called Follow Through my junior year of high school. It wasnt until our senior year that I brought Matt onboard to take over the lead vocals and we started practicing in my parents houses living room. The name change to Amber Pacific happened on the way to the lawyers office to sign our deal with Hopeless Records and the rest is history!
OBM: So, you must be glad the album is now out, how is the mood within the band?
Its always exciting when you can walk into a store and see your work as an artist on the shelf. Making the record went so smoothly this time around and I think everyone in the band is proud of the product weve put out.
OBM: The reaction so far has been really positive, that must feel pretty rewarding considering the time you've spent on the record?
Definitely a relief to see the record being taken in with such open arms and hitting kids the way our previous releases have. We make music because we love doing what we do but when there are kids out there who love it just as much it really makes it special.
OBM: What did you want to achieve with the new album?
I set out on this album to of course, stick to our style that our fan base has come to grow and love. However, I also wanted to offer them something new, I think where that shows most are some of the sounds we got when we tracked the guitars for the record, we experimented a lot to create an atmospheric type of sound with a lot of delay and I think we managed to
come away with some pretty great guitar tones.

OBM: What was the inspiration behind the title and the material on this album?
The band spent a little time off, regrouping from 2007. Throughout that
span I was able to experience a bit of the real world, what life is like
away from the band and I used those experiences and feelings as inspiration
for the new record. The title, I feel, represents what Amber Pacific has
always been about, setting a good example by writing songs with a positive
message as well as being role models to those who look up to us.
.
OBM: Would you say your influences changed much from the time you were writing
for Truth in Sincerity to when you write for Virtues?
The influences, if anything, can be traced to the beginning where I
looked up to bands like Jimmy Eat World and The Early November for
inspiration as a songwriter. There just hasnt been anything out there these
days that have inspired me like those records in the past use to so I tend
to refer to those when it comes time to write some tunes.
.
OBM: I am absolutely hooked on the songs "An Anthem For The Young At Heart" and
"Shine". Can you tell us a little bit about the meanings behind those songs?
Anthem is a song that was intended to make you feel like rolling down
the windows on a hot summers day and cranking the stereo as loud as you
can. Its suppose to kick off the record with the energy that the band has
shown in the past and delivers a message of good times to be had. Shine is
a little more deeper of a song, I wrote that with the inspiration being
those out there who feel they can only be beautiful if theyre skinny, or if
they have make up on, this song is meant to show what true beauty really is
and the fact that we all have it inside us, its just a matter of finding
it.
.
OBM: What are some of your favorite tracks of the new record?
My personal favorite is Forever. This song means the most to me on this
record because I wrote it about my grandfather who had passed away while I
was in the studio recording Virtues. It came together at the last minute
and turned out beautifully, it hits home and I think a lot of people can
relate to a song like this.
.
OBM: It's been three years since your previous release, how do you think you've
changed as a band in those three years?
I think weve all become better musicians. When youre playing night in
and night out for that long it seems like a natural progression and this
record shows a little bit of that. Obviously, weve made a few changes to
the lineup but the heart of Amber Pacific lies within the fans and as long
as the fans continue to support us we will always continue to make music.
.
OBM: What are your plans to promote the album? Any plans to come over to Germany
at all?
An interesting fact, the band has never toured outside of the United
States with the exception of Canada. We would LOVE the opportunity to tour
overseas sometime and hope to do so in the near future!
.
OBM: Where do you see Amber Pacific in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see us filling out arenas and turning this opportunity to
play music into a long term career filled with more records, fans, and
experiences that will last a lifetime.
.
OBM: Who are you currently listening to? Is there anyone out there that is
currently impressing your socks off?
I have really been into a band called, Tonight Alive out of Australia.
Their music hits when you listen to it and pulls you in, not a lot of bands
can do that these days so kudos to them!
.
OBM: What were some of your favorite spots to play? Any favorite memories or good
tour stories?
We love everywhere we play, theres something special and unique about
every city we visit and there isnt any one city that deserves to be
recognized than another, theyre all special to us in their own ways!
.
OBM: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer the questions, any message for
Amber Pacific fans?
To our fans, thank you for the support and we hope to visit Germany as
soon as possible!
